Musicians always say they wish they knew some stuff before they set out. Only because they make mistakes and wish they didn’t. If they knew something, they’d be better off. True. But I think mistakes are sometimes worth more. The lessons are invaluable if taken in the right way. Here are ten of mine.

1. Finding people to collaborate with isn’t as simple as it may sound.

2. Cementing your place in a band is easy if you’re consistent.

3. The loudest person in the room is usually the weakest.

4. Making money in the music industry is easy IF you broaden your horizons.

5. Find a niche, dominate it. It’s true in business. It’s true with music. Pick a style.

6. Don’t give up easily. Good things come to those who are patient and committed.

7. Invest energy only where you can see you’ll get a good Return On Investment (ROI).

8. Know where you want to go. Don’t just drive with no destination.

9. Always sign contracts. 

10. Keep a contact address book. The more people you know, the better.
