Many a time I have talked about a musician I used to coach for his marketing. He was a guy who sold 8000 CDs in 3 weeks. He moved from lack of confidence to being a master in marketing - something he thought as an independent musician he shouldn’t be doing.
He couldn’t have been more wrong at that point. As an independent musician, you don’t really have the funds to employ a marketing dude to help you, so you’ve gotta go it on your own, doing small bits consistently. He put together his plan and made a killer in just under a month and was at the top of cdbaby.com!
I just watched a video of author Bob Baker speaking to another guy. This time, the success story is that he sold 15,000 CDs in 18 Months. Here’s the video:

And it’s using a very similar strategy that my guy Dave used.
Both results are phenomenal. But they only come to those who believe in their music and are downright committed to their work, success and ideas. Being a successful musician isn’t easy. Nobody said it was. If you’re hanging on the edge, umming and ahhing, that’s not good enough in this industry. But if you remain committed, if you believe in yourself, if you be consistent in your strategy, you will get there.
