questions.jpg

I’m going to be doing an interview with the Nimbit co-founders Patrick Faucher or Phil Antoniades and instead of coming up with all the questions myself, I wanted you to have a chance to ask your thoughts. Nimbit is popular with many musicians I’ve spoken to and I know, for sure, that you will have some questions.

Nimbit’s mission reads, “Our mission is to put musical artists in complete control of their own music business and brand, enabling them to reach their full potential as quickly as possible.”

To spice this up even more, I’m going to select five of the most quality questions out of all those given and the five winners will get free access to the Musicians Mastermind program (five months of quality music promotion training) for which other members pay $245 USD. Not bad, right?

All you need to do is ask your question. There is a limit of just one question per person. The deadline: Tuesday 29th July 2008

How can we put a stop to ‘money-making’ ventures like Sonic Bids who act in the interest of themselves only by making musicians ‘pay to play’ and fooling organizers and venues into believing that it’s an easier process in which to ’showcase’ artists?

The performing rights agencies BMI and ASCAP has been following my schedule around lately and demanding my employers pay then their due for my performances of their archive registered songs. They have been intimidating my employers with threats of lawsuits if not paid. Only problem is ASCAP and BMI have not paid me a dime for the monies they have collected in my behalf. As a BMI songwriter, I regularly perform as a matter of rule, 3 original songs per hour. At least half of these songs are with BMI and some with ASCAP.
My question is: How can I get the performing rights agencies to stop intimidating my employers (in a right to work state) and start paying up either or………?

    Hi Kavit,

    My question is:

The home page of any mainstream website or web store like Itunes has limited visual exposition space and this space is “still” reserved only for artists who´s major labels have marketing and promotional money to spend. Artists exposed in the Home page of any website have a higher probability of attracting new fans and being listened to. How does NIMBIT give their artists the opportunity to attract new fans without this Marketing and promotional support?

    Thank you

Wow, glad to see I’m not the only one complaining about sonicbids and ASCAP/BMI’s disregard for proper royalty payments. My question is, “Is it still worthwhile for an independent artist to try to get retail distribution, and if so, what is the best way to go about it, and the best practices for billing to make sure you get paid?

    hi Nimbit,

any chance in the future of widening the scope of your service to include ‘urban’ music?

if you already do cater for ‘urban’ music, any chance of making this an obvious feature on your ‘welcome’/home page?

    regards,

    Asteriks

    Hello!

I am comparing Nimbit and Catapult distribution. With Catapult 91-95% of all proceeds go to the artist, and they distribute your music to over 60 music stores. They charge a simple $25 fee for a album set up and no monthly fee. Tell me why the nimbit retail packages would be better for the independent musician who merely wants some way to sell and distribute their music.

    Thanks

    Hello!

    My questions are:

    * How do you direct fans to your site, or does the musician themselves have to tell them about it?

    * What do you give the audience free, so they keep returning again and again?

    Regards,

    Tamara

As a professional tabla player playing for 17 years since the age of 3, I am very excited about the increasing influx of Indian Classical musical influences entering not only certain hits of the music charts but also music of all genres. The sounds of the tabla as well as other melodic factors bring a versatility and “fusion” to music that altogether can improve the essence and mood of music. My question is how can we encourage and strengthen the variety of performative possibilities by educating and performing eclectic mixes of Indian Classical and other forms of music whilst still creating something new, innovative and individually expressive?

    Thanks

Searching for music to buy online (retailers, myspace, etc.) can be time consuming and inefficient. A person could spend hours sifting through music at any given site, then decide to just “buy what’s popular” in the way of major label artists. How can an independent artist proactively increase their potential to be found with such large databases of music?

    Kavit,

    My question to Nimbit:

CDBaby is by far the oldest and I believe the best in the market for online distribution of independent music. As someone who uses CDBaby, I’d like to know your opinion on CDBaby, and what Nimbit offers me that CDBaby cannot?

Apart from retail placement with other digital retailers (eg. iTunes), how are current nimbit artists making the most money using the nimbit OMT? In other words, where/how are successful sellers placing the nimbit OMT, and what kind of marketing are they doing with it, to get the most sales?

    Thanks,
    Brenda
