Another fan-funded initiative, Slicethepie.com is a website that allows artists to join and raise money from their fans. Here’s what it says on their About page: “How? We turn every music fan into a record label.”

The idea is to tap an artist’s online fan base to generate cash for projects that are going to succeed. And in most cases, they will succeed because they are fan-based approaches where the end customers are always going to be fans.

Quote from Wired article: ”If you’re one of 7 million bands on MySpace, no one’s going to hear you,” said Courtier-Dutton [founder of Slicethepie]. “[Fan funding] gets you out of the sludge … to the edge of the limelight.”
