Around this time in December, I start thing back on the year - the goals I scored, the ones I missed and the ones that had me take penalties. In the US, you could think of it as the home runs I made and the ones where I didn’t quite get there. I also look at the following year and set more challenging, exciting and growing goals for myself.
In this issue, I thought I’d share some gems / wisdom that I’ve randomly pulled out throughout the year that has helped my clients and I grow. Remember, music is just a small part of your success. Your mindset - how you think - plays a big role too.
* You don’t have to get it right, you just have to get it going.
One of my favorite sayings to get someone to do something. Promoting your music isn’t always going to go the way you want it, but if you don’t start, you won’t get the right direction from your mistakes. What can you start before the year is out that you’ve just procrastinated on for a long, long time?
* You don’t get what you deserve, you get what you negotiate for.
How deep will you in your negotiation to get the best for yourself and others? I don’t just mean negotiations with others,I mean negotiations with how deep you’ll go to get what you want.
* When you pass uncomfortable moments, you feel deeply fulfilled.
Most people get scared when they reach a situation that exerts pressure to get out of their comfort zone - the zone where they operate easily and without pain. Those who push themselves and get out the comfort zone to the place where it’s uncomfortable, but they’ve achieved something quite amazing are those who will feel deeply fulfilled.
* Music marketing is an everyday thing, just like brushing your teeth.
It’s probably the most important thing you should hear about music marketing. Make sure you’re doing small things every single day. Without daily consistent input, you won’t grow exponentially. It’s no good doing a big marketing for one week and not touching it again for a few months.
* Your body is a temple, but only if you treat it like one.
Success isn’t just about your conviction and skills. It’s about your overall results. To drive that you must have a good vehicle (your body) to take you to new heights and in leaps and bounds. Treat your body well, it’ll treat you well. There you have it, a few random gems that have transformed my life over the course of the last 18 months.
