Kavit’s latest e-book is like a roadmap for independent musicians full of useful tips, while looking at the ‘big picture’.
I’m looking forward to the book!
I’ve also been inspired to join up with Twitter -
after reading Grace Nikae’s interview!?
All good stuff!
The course sounds great. It’s your content that convinced me. I’ve done alot of reading on the music business and
I’ve always known I’d have to work out my own marketing strategy. I know what you’re saying will work.
All I have to do now is do it!
Jason.
Very useful E-book , Kavit ! GREAT !
It’s cool the part that you say about ‘Dreaming Room’ . How important is to dream ! Before ‘there’ and after ‘here’ ! It’s the power of thinking . It’s the power of our minds … To create a vision and go ahead . All we have the right of BIG dreams . The Universe is abundant and musicians don’t want to prejudice people .. so let’s ask to the Universe , let’s work h.a.r.d. , let’s sow good vibes and the result will be equivalent of our effort .
I want to keep an independent musician but more than not associated with a major label . I ( and many others ) want to be a independent person . Don’t you also , my dear ?! Saying this because a ‘cruel doubt’ is on my head : how can I maintain a street team if on the moment financial resources are few ? How I’ll pay these people if the ‘battle’ is to sustain myself firstly? How to go ahead without a street team ? Is essential a street team ? How many independent musicians are reading your words and are solo artists that need to go ahead and are alone on the road … Who write this is one of these people … I have more questions to ask you but know that you’ve a very busy life . On the days that are coming and reading what you write on your blog I’ll ask ‘these and those’ questions …
Kavit , you put the Light on the way of musicians worldwide ! Thanks so much sharing your knowledge and all you learned on your own way .
What you do is much/much more than just to show what we have to do : your words foster the MUSIC itself , this divine energy ! God bless your way !
Very best regards ,

Good job! A read that should inspire solid beginnings, as well as “rejuiced” efforts on the path, for a lot of musicians and artists. I did not get to reading all of it this evening; but am smiling so far. This stuff is workable to varying degrees for everyone! Looking forward to more info, and putting it into action - wow!
Good informative reading, learned a lot.
The book does not download.
It is in a loop.
I tried a few different ways, about 6 - 7 tries.
Your site is stuck in a programming loop.
.
I choose not to tell my friends - sorry, I do not recommend books to my friends until I read the book first.
I already signed for the newsletter.
Your site is in a loop; but thanks for the good intentions . . . .
I’m going to give you the negative impressions up front since that’s more valuable to you.
Overall, this was shorter than I expected and there’s a lot of filler. The actual content doesn’t start until 10 pages into a 29 page document, and the last few pages are bookend content, too. Full-color title pages and the word “creativity” — could have done without all that.
Obviously, I’m biased by experience — it’s been years of Seth Godin and Jay Levinson now so far too much of your material was too-familiar. However, this document reads like a pep talk more than a how-to.
Regardless of my own biases, though, I would want to see more nuts-and-bolts and less overview. Pages 21-23 were like a single blog entry on Godin’s site, you know?
Details I wanted to see: designing promotional campaigns, using this technology effectively, the details of incorporation and the daily routine of running a business, connecting my online and real-world strategies, etc. You mention plans for Operation, Management, Marketing and Finance yet only give a one-paragraph overview on each.
My main problem was that there’s no meat here. It reads more like an pitch for Kavit Haria than a useful tool for me, the reader.
Sorry to be blunt, but it’s for the good of the species.
Alan, the link is right there, highlighted in yellow. Please check again, you can’t miss it. If it doesn’t work (it should work!!) then that’s another matter, please let me know.
Thanks,
Kavit
This is a very good, brief summary of what it takes to get your business going. While Kavit’s focus is the music business, this advice is valid for any entrepreneur. I have taken the Music Mastermind Coaching Program in an earlier version and was well pleased.
Hey Kavit,
I just read the September 2008 e-book and all the comments above. Your latest e-guide serves as a short-and-sweet introduction to what may seem to be a daunting task to many. This document is much easier to read than the first one, plus it looks a lot more professional. The first one struck me as someone revealing their thoughts quickly and with great excitement, whereas this one still comes across as inspirational, but it is more structured and polished.
Even if some people might do without some of the extras in terms of images and large font, I personally think it is all about how you want to convey your message to your target audience. As I mentioned in some previous feedback to you, it is a matter of whether you market yourself primarily as a motivator or as a researcher. From what I’ve seen of your style, it is indeed inspirational. Your use of images appears to be consonant with who you are. It sends a message to people that says ‘be professional and be true to yourself.’
Accordingly, I think that you do a great job of “modeling” your strategies through the guides themselves and the very method of distribution you use. Certainly both guides were free (yes, we are at the top of that funnel, right?), so the cost to me was my time. I must say I’d hate to spend my time reading something really dense, only to learn after taking a lot of time to read through it that I had learned nothing. Every business and management consultant in any industry develops his or her own niche and style of presentation and there are plenty of those who specialize in the details of business plans, as well as business plan writing, for anyone interested in getting to that nitty-gritty stuff.
At least with your document, I can quickly scan it and decide if I want to stay engaged with it further and/or engage you as a consultant or take your course. So, even though I saw both guides as invitations to your Musicians Mastermind class, that was OK with me. I still got something out of having a look. I was inspired to further my own online adventures by your first guide. It is true that I got a lot more out of the first one, but that is simply because I’ve just been working through writing/revising my own business plan as you know. However, had that not been the case, then I think that having this e-book in addition to some of my other resources would have been perfect for me a few months ago when I embarked on my planning adventure . I understand fully why you prefer to call this one the prequel!
Through your “modeling” I can see that what you are doing has some motivational effect on me to take action of some kind which will lead to business for you either through referral or because I want to give you my business - and so I can understand the process you are recommending that much better in order to develop a similar approach for use in growing my own audience, having experienced first-hand the possibilities from the prospective buyer side.
I have one suggestion as it relates to marketing - If possible, I would suggest avoiding mentioning any “number of pages” to market your guides in the future. There is an expectation set for many of us from our days of high school and college papers and books about what constitutes a “page”. There may be an expectation of greater density and/or detail. I remember feeling somewhat disappointed after downloading the first guide because I had different expectations in this regard and in terms of the presentation itself. I don’t mean that more information is better. More information might be nonsense. So I am not asking you to “beef up” your free guides or to add “filler”. Of course, someone might say - “well it is free, so what can people expect, right? Of course, it is free, but I do think there is some value in setting appropriate expectations. Maybe for most of your target audience this doesn’t matter at all. I don’t know. But I thought it was worthwhile mentioning.
Both your blog and your guides are filled with lots of inspiration and seem primarily designed to get people motivated. If someone sits on her rear end all day waiting for something to happen, then the most detailed of books is not going to get her anywhere. On the other hand, if your guides or thought pieces inspire someone to action, then at least she is one step closer to dreaming and to realizing her dreams.
Before I close, I want to say that the “dreaming room” and “fan funnel” were my favorite tag words/concepts from the Sept 08 e-book or book.
Please keep in mind that everything I say above is well meaning.
Wishing you the best!
Manisha
